I have recently started using SAM for managing staff absence and it really does make the whole process much simpler. Instead of having to rely on memory, SAM flags up staff who reach an absence trigger point, which alerts the user to take action. Judgement can then be used to determine how to proceed, in line with our own policies. I particularly value the ability to see individual absence calendars for staff, which enables absence patterns to be identified quickly and easily. The various reports can be used to provide comparisons termly, annually or by absence type, and are extremely useful in providing school leaders with an overview. Before we started using SAM, the process of dealing with staff absence was old fashioned, impersonal and confidentiality couldn’t always be assured.
