saving money for schools

The Department for Education has launched a new service for schools providing advice on getting the best value for money. Here, at SAM, our focus is on highlighting ways that schools can save absence costs and reinvest that budget in school resources, so we were excited to hear this news.

The service offers schools free advice and guidance on how to get value for money and procure services from local and national businesses. It is being trialled initially in the South-West and North-West, with the aim to roll it out soon across the UK.

School Systems Minister Lord Agnew said:

“We know that how schools use their money is important in delivering the best outcomes for pupils and this new service will help School Business Professionals to make better financial decisions.” Lord Agnew, School Systems Minister

The service will provide:

  • template documentation for buying;
  • help with complex contracts, particularly services such as catering, cleaning, premises and technology services;
  • promotion of local collaboration, where there is an opportunity to reduce costs on areas such as learning resources and administrative supplies;
  • market intelligence; and
  • contract management support.

SAM has helped schools already save money, so if you are looking at budgets for April, why not arrange an online demonstration. As recently featured in FundEd Magazine, SAM saved one schools £46,700 on staff absence in two years.

“In our first review after using SAM for 18 months, we had reduced supply costs from £22,000 to £2,800, while the financial loss on staffing costs reduced from £47,000 to £19,500 in the second year, proving that SAM was a great investment.” St John’s Primary Academy, Bradford

You can use SAM’s online calculator to see how much you could save by reducing absence. Click here to find out, download our brochure or give us a call on 01924 907319 to arrange a demonstration.
